State Boards

In India, State government conducts Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations through State Boards in their respective state. All states follow their own syllabus and grading strategy.

State boards are the primary education boards in public schools, giving access of education to every individual. The board comes in direct control of state government and thus the curriculum is revised or modified as per the government norms.

 Examinations conducted by State Boards in India –

  • Secondary School Certificate (SSC) – This board exam is conducted for 10th
  • Higher School Certificate (HSC) – This board exam is conducted for 12th

  • State Boards are operational in every state and union territory of India
  • State Boards are recognized by state government as well as central government
  • Some of the boards like Rajasthan Board conduct examination for 8th
  • The board promotes regional language learning along with core subjects
  • Academic content is more relevant as per local level
  • Little variation to NCERT books can be seen in different boards
  • Millions of students appear for SSC and HSC examinations every year
  • Financial aid is also given in public state board schools by government to support education facility through all economic zones

 

Advantages –

  • Low school fees
  • Suitable for children whose parents don’t have transferable job
  • Curriculum is moderately complex giving enough scope to pursue extracurricular activities
  • Reserved seats in state recognized colleges
  • Tuitions and textbooks are easily available

 

Cons-

  • Quality of education is completely dependent on State Government
  • Schools can lack basic infrastructure facilities
  • Quality of content in books is not up to the mark
  • Teaching quality can be comparatively lower
